Emergency Veterinary Technician - Contingent

About The Position

MedVet is seeking a collaborative, driven Emergency Veterinary Technician to provide patient care in a fast-paced emergency environment. The role involves responding to changing priorities and helping patients receive advanced medical treatment. This is a contingent position scheduled on an as-needed basis, with a commitment to work at least one shift every 30 days.

Requirements

Prior veterinary experience is required.
Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
Previous emergency veterinary experience desired.

Responsibilities

Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
Educate clients on home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
