Nursing & ICU Veterinary Technician - Overnights
About The Position
MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Nursing/ICU Veterinary Technician for overnight work. The Nursing department provides constant supervision to hospitalized patients to ensure their treatment plans are followed. The role involves assessing and prioritizing incoming patients, recognizing distress, providing nursing care and monitoring, assisting with procedures and anesthesia, and communicating with clients and the patient care team. The technician also provides client education and performs in-house laboratory testing. A sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 may be offered based on skillset and experience.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant-rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
- Previous nursing or critical care experience desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
- Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize them based on assessment.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
- Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
