Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
MedVet is a fast-growing emergency and specialty veterinary provider with practices nationwide. The Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant joins the clinical team and supports hospitalized patients through ongoing supervision, treatment, and nursing care. The role involves identifying patient distress, assisting with clinical procedures and recovery, and supporting client communication and education. The proposed schedule is Thursday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hiring range is $17.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a drug screen and background check.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must pass a drug screen and background check as a condition of employment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous nursing or critical care experience is desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
- Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
