Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The Nursing department provides continuous supervision to ensure hospitalized patients receive their prescribed treatments. This role involves recognizing signs of patient distress, supporting treatment and recovery, performing phlebotomy and placing IV catheters, and assisting with client follow-up and education. The proposed schedule is Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hiring range is $17.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a drug screen and background check.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice To Haves
- Previous nursing or critical care experience is desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as needed.
- Partner with the patient care team on treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Educate clients on home care instructions, medications and their indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
- Assist the DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
