Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant
About The Position
MedVet is seeking a collaborative and driven Nursing & ICU Veterinary Assistant to join its clinical team. The role supports hospitalized patients who require constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are followed. It is suited to someone who can recognize patient distress and respond appropriately, and who enjoys phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery, and providing client follow-up and education. The proposed schedule is Sunday through Tuesday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The hiring range is $17.00–$28.00 per hour, based on experience. Candidates must pass a drug screen and background check as a condition of employment.
Requirements
- Prior veterinary experience is required.
- Proficiency in calculations, including drug calculations, constant rate infusions, and unit conversions.
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
Nice To Haves
- Previous nursing or critical care experience is desired.
Responsibilities
- Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather additional information as necessary.
- Partner with the patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication, and nursing care concerns.
- Provide client education, including home care instructions, medication indications and adverse reactions, and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
- Assist veterinarians with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
- Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
