Nursing Assistant-Unit Coordinator (On-Call)
About The Position
This is an on-call position for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, requiring a minimum of 24 hours per month and maintenance of education requirements. The role provides clerical support to nursing departments by coordinating communication, transcribing provider orders, and maintaining unit supplies. Patient care is delivered by assisting the professional nurse in meeting basic activities of daily living (ADL) needs of the patient while maintaining an orderly and safe physical environment. Serving patients with challenging and complex conditions requires a concentration of specialized staff able to work in highly coordinated teams, organizing care around each patient’s condition. This necessitates staff at multiple levels and across many departments to exhibit exceptional teamwork qualities, including efficient and effective communication and adopting behaviors required for high-functioning integrated teams.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- Current CPR certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association) is required. If candidate holds valid CPR for Healthcare providers through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete CPR BLS for Healthcare Providers by the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
- Physically able to work hours required and safely transport/transfer patients

- Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course or currently a student in an accredited Nursing program
Responsibilities
- Awareness of the current plans of care.
- Demonstrates understanding of age and developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive care.
- Documents accurately and in real time.
- Responds to changing patient priorities.
- Demonstrates accuracy, efficiency, and completeness in products and processes. Performs tasks with appropriate urgency and accuracy while reducing waste through proactive measures.
- Coordinates time and responsibilities as requested to ensure time is used most efficiently while maintaining top priorities.
- Recognizes patient data outside of normal limits and reports to RN in a timely manner.
- Assists with providing developmentally appropriate care in conjunction with current plans of care.
- Completes patient care related duties as delegated by the professional nurse.
- Assists patients to safely complete ADLs as delegated by the nurse.
- Demonstrates safe and appropriate transfer techniques.
- Delivers family centered care.
- Responds to family requests for information and assistance.
- Ensures that patient care areas are maintained in an orderly manner, orders supplies, ensures that adequate supplies of all forms are available, maintains charts and competently assists nursing staff as requested.
- Coordination of patient schedules/tests with multiple departments.
- Coordination of inter- and intradepartmental communication.
- Prioritizing tasks to meet patient and unit/department needs.
- Responding to a decentralized nursing care delivery system.
- Accurate transcription of provider orders.
- Serve as a patient safety attendant according to policy and guidelines, focusing on the safety of the patient in medical or behavioral situations, including suicide precaution situations.
