About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of assigned area; continuously responsible for assisting professional nursing personnel in providing patient care; directly responsible for providing specified services for patients under the direction and supervision of the charge nurse.

Requirements

• Completion of course for nursing assistants
• CPR up to date
• Must be able to read and understand printed material, written instructions
• Should have the ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing
• Lift weights over 25 lbs.
• Repeated bending, stooping, squatting, and occasional pushing and pulling movements.
• Prolonged walking and standing.
• Frequent interruptions.
• Visual and hearing acuity as well as cognitive function to make observations and communicate these to other staff.
• Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Responsibilities

• Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
• Provides patient's personal care, including a.m. and p.m. care, shampoo, oral hygiene, and shaving.
• Assists with meals, passes water and nourishments, and feeds patients.
• Ambulates patients, gives exercises, and massages.
• Keeps patient rooms and bedside tables clean and orderly.
• Collects specimens: sputum, stool, urine, and vomitus for exam by lab, physician, charge nurse and labels correctly including time.
• Monitors patient’s condition, checks assigned patients frequently for skin changes, symptoms, attitudes, and appetite.
• Records observations and alerts the charge nurse to significant observations.
• Keeps intake and output, takes vital signs, measures and records with 100% accuracy.
• Runs in-house errands for patients and staff as requested by nurse.
• Gives simple treatments under direction of nurse, including enemas and catheter care.
• Assists with cleaning clean and dirty utility rooms and kitchen.
• Keeps furniture out of halls.
• Checks equipment for malfunction and reports needed repairs to charge nurse.
• Performs other related non-professional nursing duties and rotates to other areas when requested.
• Acts morally, ethically, within his/her scope of practice, and within the facilities policies and procedures.
