About The Position
The Nurse Tech acts as a team member in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider. The role performs basic skills according to department guidelines, communicates observations to the health care team, and collects and reports patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating patients, wound care, catheterization, and serving as a safety attendant. The Nurse Tech is also responsible for completing required documentation accurately and on time. This position is in the Med Surg Care Unit 4AB at Blodgett Hospital, an acute care teaching hospital in Grand Rapids. The medical-surgical units care for a wide variety of medical conditions, with a primary focus on internal medicine, and frequently care for high-acuity patients. The work is part of a collaborative nursing team focused on exceptional patient care.
Requirements
- High school diploma or work equivalent.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days.
Responsibilities
- Deliver quality patient care as a team member under the supervision of an RN or Provider.
- Perform basic skills according to department guidelines.
- Communicate observations to members of the health care team.
- Collect and report patients’ and families’ physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs in coordination with and as directed by the RN or Provider.
- Take vital signs and check blood sugars.
- Provide bed bathing and assist patients with ambulation.
- Provide wound care and catheterization.
- Act as a safety attendant for patients.
- Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
