About The Position

The Nurse Residency program at Mayo Clinic is designed for newly licensed Registered Nurses in the first year of their career, offering the experience to become a well-rounded, fully competent Registered Nurse. This program is accredited with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs. Mayo Clinic is seeking new graduate RNs to join their team in Rochester, Minnesota, to help reimagine the future of healthcare and build the care model of tomorrow. As a registered nurse, you will be part of a collaborative, high-acuity environment where evidence-based practice and compassion are paramount. The role involves coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care, functioning within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, and potentially participating in leadership activities such as preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. Delegation of patient care will be based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. The role requires excellent communication, mentoring, and teaching skills, and may involve committee or project participation. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship, requiring state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

• Student or Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
• All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
• All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Computer skills required.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
• Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
• Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers) or American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
• Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Nice To Haves

• One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is preferred.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
• Internal applicants should submit their three most recent performance appraisals.

Responsibilities

• Function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, including accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
• Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
• Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources.
• Possess excellent communication skills; be skillful in mentoring and teaching.
• May participate on committees or projects.
• A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.
