About The Position
MedHealth is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join the healthcare team at the Walton County Jail in Monroe, Georgia. The Nurse Practitioner provides high-quality psychiatric care in a correctional setting, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support patient health outcomes. Care may be provided in the medical unit, housing units, or through telepsychiatry.
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted APRN license in the state of Georgia.
- At least one year of experience.
- Valid DEA registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Prescribing authority in Georgia.

- Correctional experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for patients, including evaluating current and past mental health issues.
- Respond to mental health emergencies throughout the facility.
- Collaborate with the Mental Health Clinician regarding patient status and treatment.
- Manage psychiatric medications using the MedHealth formulary and follow established protocols when non-formulary medications are required.
- Deliver care in accordance with established MedHealth Policies and Procedures.
- Document all patient encounters in electronic or paper medical records in accordance with MedHealth policies and procedures and applicable state, local, and federal guidelines.
- Communicate the need for special housing to appropriate medical and security personnel.
- Follow County Policies and Procedures regarding security and patient contact.
- Collaborate with the Health Service Administrator, Medical Director, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and Security Personnel regarding patients as needed.
- Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings and quarterly Pharmaceutical & Therapeutic meetings by phone or in person.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
