About The Position

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is launching a new 24/7 Midwifery and Gynecology advanced practice provider (APP) coverage model and is seeking Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants to help establish and grow the service. The role provides comprehensive inpatient women's health coverage across labor and delivery, postpartum, gynecology, and related services in a dynamic clinical environment. APPs collaborate with physicians, certified nurse-midwives, nurses, and other care team members to deliver patient-centered care and support strong clinical outcomes. The APP assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages Women's Health patients; provides direct care; coordinates treatment plans and transitions of care; and participates in quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives. Core clinical work includes admissions and evaluations, obstetric and gynecologic triage, treatment planning, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and documentation. The APP may assist with cesarean sections and other procedures consistent with licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice. For Nurse Practitioners, practice is governed by hospital policies and procedures, departmental clinical practice guidelines, Massachusetts regulations, and applicable professional standards. The NP practices under medical supervision, collaborates with other disciplines, and provides care within approved practice guidelines. The posting also lists employee health responsibilities, including preplacement physical examinations, episodic care for employee illnesses and injuries, counseling and referrals, management of work-related injuries, return-to-work coordination, and employee wellness and safety education. The department will discuss schedule preferences during interviews and consider them in light of operational needs. The program is expanding toward full 24/7 coverage, with potential 12-hour day or night shifts and weekend and holiday work. Full-time and part-time staffing models are available. Experienced Women's Health APPs and motivated new graduates are welcome. Nurse Practitioners hired without first-assist certification are expected to obtain it within one year of employment.
