About The Position

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is launching a new 24/7 Midwifery and Gynecology advanced practice provider coverage model. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants will provide comprehensive inpatient women's health care across labor and delivery, postpartum, gynecology, and related services, working with physicians, certified nurse-midwives, nurses, and other members of a multidisciplinary team. The role helps establish and grow the service while delivering patient-centered care and supporting clinical quality, safety, and outcomes. The APP assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages patients within the Women's Health service. Duties include direct patient care, coordination of treatment plans and transitions of care, admissions and evaluations, triage of obstetric and gynecologic patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and documenting care according to organizational standards. The APP may assist with cesarean sections and other procedures consistent with licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice. For Nurse Practitioners, practice is governed by hospital policies, departmental clinical practice guidelines, Massachusetts regulations, and applicable professional standards. The Nurse Practitioner practices under medical supervision, consults with the Medical Director or designee when a written protocol does not support a practice, and works collaboratively with nursing staff and other health care disciplines. The posting also describes employee-health responsibilities, including preplacement physical examinations, episodic care for employee illnesses and injuries, referrals and counseling within scope, evaluation of work-related injuries, return-to-work coordination, and wellness and safety education. Schedule preferences will be discussed during interviews and considered alongside departmental needs. The program is expanding toward full 24/7 coverage, with possible 12-hour day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Full-time and part-time staffing models are considered. Experienced Women's Health APPs and motivated new graduates are welcome. Nurse Practitioners hired without first-assist certification are expected to obtain it within one year of employment. Nurse Practitioner positions are represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association collective bargaining unit.
