About The Position

This role involves completing thorough evaluations of pediatric patients, from neonates to adolescents and young adults, including age-appropriate histories and examinations. The position requires identifying illness severity in a timely manner, presenting assessments to a supervising physician, and working towards prescribing necessary care plans. The individual will perform appropriate procedures under guidance and know when and how to seek assistance. Responsibilities encompass medical knowledge, clinical evaluation, diagnostic assessment, patient history taking, patient care, clinical reasoning, organizing and prioritizing patient care, patient management, and performing procedures as defined by the clinical department. Communication skills are essential for patient and family-centered interactions, as well as inter-professional team communication and communication within the healthcare system. The role also involves practice-based learning and improvement, including evidence-based practice and reflective practice, as well as professionalism and system-based practice for patient-centered care coordination. Awareness of population and community health needs is also incorporated.

Requirements

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner: Graduate degree in nursing accredited by one of the national certifying bodies in nursing. (Or, on or before December 31, 2004, completion of an advanced nurse practitioner program recognized by a national certifying body for certification as a nurse practitioner.)
Physician Assistant: Graduation from a physician assistant program accredited, at the time of graduation, by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
No related experience required.
Provider licensing: Current State of Connecticut (Pediatric) Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure. OR… Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Inc. (NCCPA). Current State of Connecticut Physician Assistant licensure.
Medical knowledge sufficient to recognize patterns, trends and disease traits and to fully engage in APP learning opportunities, effectively applying such knowledge to basic clinical evaluations and patient care.
