Nurse Extern - Progressive Care

About The Position
The Nurse Extern works in a 24-bed Progressive Care unit, where nursing students care for patients with complex medical needs while building skills in assessment, telemetry, and progressive nursing care. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the extern supports patient safety, comfort, and well-being, assists the nursing team, responds to emergent situations, and contributes to high-quality care while advancing their nursing education.
Requirements
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or current enrollment in the Henry Ford Health Early College Program with completion of two clinical rotations.
- Enrolled in an accredited school of nursing with completion of two clinical rotations, including one in Med/Surg (acute care setting).
- Current Health Care Provider Certification.
Responsibilities
- Perform specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs under RN supervision.
- Provide input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care.
- Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
- Participate in continuing education to enhance nursing skills and knowledge.
