About The Position

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Mission Hospital is part of HCA Healthcare and Mission Health, located in Asheville, North Carolina. The hospital serves as the regional tertiary and quaternary care center in Western North Carolina and the adjoining region. It is licensed for 853 beds and is the region’s only trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, and Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and includes the only children’s hospital in Western North Carolina. Requirements

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential patient care by helping with activities of daily living, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Perform nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other basic procedures as experience and competency grow.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team to support coordinated patient care.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and provide guidance for health and recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient areas by following infection-prevention practices and managing equipment.
• Participate in learning opportunities, share ideas to improve care, and partner with a supervisor or preceptor to develop a personal career development plan.
