About The Position

The NP/PA Infusion Therapy Provider delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals receiving IV infusion treatments for acute and chronic conditions. This role requires advanced clinical skills, strong assessment abilities, and the capacity to work independently while supporting a multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA program.
  • Board Certified.
  • NP or PA with a current license to practice in the State of Michigan.
  • Current DEA license.
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS certified.
  • 2 years NP/PA experience OR 3 years RN experience in oncology, ICU, ER, or infusion settings
  • Strong IV and clinical assessment skills, excellent communication, organizational abilities, and EMR proficiency.

  • Prior outpatient or infusion center experience
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple patients
  • Experience with infusion center operations and hazardous drug safety

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development, execution, and periodic review of written policies and protocols governing the services of SMH’s Infusion Suite.
  • Oversee infusion therapies, including but not limited to (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, blood products, antibiotics, supportive infusions) in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Reviews and cosigns outside provider referrals/infusion orders and coordinates with the ordering physician to facilitate safe and accurate patient care
  • Monitor patient response, manage acute infusion reactions, and escalate care as needed.
  • Prescribes supportive medications to manage treatment side effects, including severe nausea, fever, pain, etc., while the patient is present in the infusion suite.
  • Evaluates and orders interventions for central line complications, including port malfunctions, infections, and suspected extravasations.
  • Perform patient and family centered IV infusion care for a range of conditions, including oncology, rheumatology, neurology, and other specialty therapies.
  • Infusion Care provider will use EMR/CPOE in a timely manner for all patient-related actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatments, and patient progress.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic conditions, including infusion-related complications and treatment-related toxicities.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests (i.e. CBC and hepatic panels) to ensure patient safety.
  • Prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope of practice.
  • Provide patient education on treatment plans, expected side effects, and symptom management.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other team members to coordinate care.
  • Display good interpersonal skills with patients and families as well as staff members.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Comply with the standards set forth for the Infusion Therapy Provider designation.
  • Maintain necessary accreditation on required certifications.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to hospital/clinic policies and safety standards.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, addressing concerns and ensuring timely communication with prescribers.
  • Attend monthly Medical Staff meetings.
  • Demonstrate appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.
  • Assists with Hospitalist Assistant on Med Surg when able.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising Physician and/or Administration.
