About The Position

Cook Children's is recruiting an Advanced Practice Provider (AAP) to join its Hospitalist Short Stay Unit. This is a full time, (.75 FTE) night-shift position. The Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions in collaborative practice with physician(s) in the hospital setting. The NP/PA is responsible for the assessment, participation in the development of the plan of care, diagnosis and intervention of the assigned hospitalized patient(s) according to approved protocols. The NP/PA prescribes a variety of modalities to meet patient needs, up to and including continued hospital admission or discharge and prescriptive authority. Collaborates with the assigned team members to support and adjust plan of care and length of stay for patient care needs.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification required (for APRNs)
  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies required (for PAs)
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license (for APRNs)
  • Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license (for APRNs)
  • Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner required (for APRNs)
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license (for PAs)
  • Certified as a PA-C (for PAs)
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred (for APRNs)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized areas strongly preferred (for PAs)
