About The Position

The Non-Mutuel Clerk position encompasses two primary roles: Usher and Program Seller. As an Usher, the individual will greet and interact with guests in a friendly and helpful manner, assist them in locating seating within the venue, and provide administrative support. As a Program Seller, the individual will sell racing programs, manage and balance cash and cash equivalents, and also provide administrative support. The role requires delivering superior guest service by adhering to six core service standards, assisting guests with navigation and information, processing sales, and maintaining the security and accuracy of financial transactions. This position also involves notifying management of suspicious activity, maintaining confidentiality, and attending professional development meetings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least six (6) months of sales, cash handling, and/or racing experience.
  • Possession of, and ability to maintain a valid gaming license within the assigned state of employment.
  • Must successfully pass background check.
  • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, Friday and Saturday nights, and holidays if needed.

  • Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a sales, customer service, and cash handling operation.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of sales, cash handling, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of thoroughbred racing.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ability to collect, disburse, and count various forms of monies.
  • Ability to utilize cashiering systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to interpret and explain policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and interact with guests in a friendly, courteous, responsive, and accurate manner.
  • Assist guests with locating assigned seating and within the venue.
  • Provide administrative support to higher-level management staff.
  • Sell racing programs to guests.
  • Maintain, secure, and balance all cash and cash equivalents.
  • Keep aisles and walkways clear.
  • Assist guests with questions and navigating the property.
  • Handle and secure all money banks to ensure proper balancing and transaction verification.
  • Prepare and verify all closing paperwork.
  • Correct financial deficiencies as needed.
  • Notify higher-level management of any suspicious or unusual activity and/or transactions.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of box purchases.
  • Ensure all tips received are placed in the tip box.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of new trends and innovations in customer service and sales.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
