About The Position

The Night Shift Unit Manager Nurse is responsible for overseeing the delivery of resident care during overnight hours in a long-term care facility. This role ensures high-quality, safe, and compliant care while supervising nursing staff, coordinating clinical activities, and responding to resident needs and emergencies.

Requirements

Current, active RN or LPN license in the state of practice (e.g., Indiana)
Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Responsibilities

Oversee the delivery of resident care during overnight hours.
Ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant care.
Supervise nursing staff, coordinate clinical activities, and respond to resident needs and emergencies.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans.
Monitor residents for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and facility policies.
Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during critical situations.
Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit.
Assign duties and ensure adequate staffing levels.
Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
Assist with orientation and training of new staff.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS guidelines).
Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures.
Participate in audits, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities.
Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
Provide detailed shift reports and ensure continuity of care between shifts.
Notify appropriate parties of significant changes in resident condition.
Maintain staffing schedules and report staffing concerns.
Review incident reports and follow up as needed.
Ensure supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
