About The Position

The Night Shift Unit Manager Nurse is responsible for overseeing the delivery of resident care during overnight hours in a long-term care facility. This role ensures high-quality, safe, and compliant care while supervising nursing staff, coordinating clinical activities, and responding to resident needs and emergencies.

Requirements

  • Current, active RN or LPN license in the state of practice (e.g., Indiana)
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of resident care during overnight hours.
  • Ensure high-quality, safe, and compliant care.
  • Supervise nursing staff, coordinate clinical activities, and respond to resident needs and emergencies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans.
  • Monitor residents for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records.
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and facility policies.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during critical situations.
  • Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit.
  • Assign duties and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS guidelines).
  • Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures.
  • Participate in audits, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provide detailed shift reports and ensure continuity of care between shifts.
  • Notify appropriate parties of significant changes in resident condition.
  • Maintain staffing schedules and report staffing concerns.
  • Review incident reports and follow up as needed.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
