About The Position

The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content across platforms, delivering it clearly, engagingly, and meaningfully to news consumers. The role presents and writes news stories, produces newscasts, and ensures content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.

The News Anchor also supports newsroom operations through writing, copy editing, research, coordination of news programming, field reporting, interviewing, and responding to breaking news. Additional duties include promotional appearances, editing video clips, creating content for websites and other eMedia platforms, and interacting with viewers on social media. Other projects and duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad lib when required.
• Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting or anchoring; the amount may vary depending on market size.
• Superior on-air presence.
• Excellent news judgment and expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers, and issues.
• Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
• Ability to identify others’ developmental needs and coach, mentor, or otherwise help them improve their knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to listen effectively, fully understand problems, and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.

Responsibilities

• Present news stories and other content for all platforms.
• Ensure news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Write and deliver news stories clearly and concisely.
• Produce newscasts and communicate clear direction to team members.
• Assist with writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating news programming and other content.
• Act as a field reporter as assigned.
• Conduct interviews with news personnel and others.
• Respond to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
• Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Edit video clips as assigned.
• Write content for the website and other eMedia platforms.
• Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
