About The Position

WJHG, the #1 station in Florida's fast-growing Panhandle, is seeking a dynamic evening anchor to lead weekday newscasts. This is a journalist-leader role that combines anchoring with reporting and creating daily content for broadcast, streaming, web, and social platforms. The anchor will mentor less-experienced journalists and connect with the community by building relationships, emceeing events, and representing the station on and off camera. The position calls for a passion for local news and a broad understanding of modern multiplatform journalism. The schedule is flexible and hours may change according to the needs of the news team.

Requirements

• A BA/BS degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field.
• Prior professional experience working in news media.
• Strong writing skills and experience writing for newscasts.
• Strong professional social media skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
• Willingness to participate in the community off camera and represent the station at local events.
• Solid technical and computer skills, including the ability to shoot, edit, write, and technically direct content independently.
• A valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, with hours that may change based on the news team's needs.

Responsibilities

• Anchor weekday newscasts and assist with producing, checking scripts, and contributing content.
• Report breaking news live, locally and/or nationally, and schedule and conduct live interviews.
• Produce, present, and technically direct unique daily content for multiple platforms.
• Adapt content generated on streaming platforms into stories for broadcast, web, and social media.
• Multitask and use technical skills while reporting and anchoring live.
• Work on special projects, including investigative reporting and long-form features.
• Assist with other newsroom duties as directed by management.
• Mentor less-experienced journalists.
• Build community relationships, emcee events, and represent the station on and off camera.
