About The Position

Start your nursing career at BMC in the Emergency Department, the busiest Level 1 Trauma Center in New England, where you’ll care for diverse patients, make a meaningful impact every day, and grow as part of a team committed to exceptional, compassionate care. Boston Medical Center has implemented a comprehensive new graduate nurse transition to practice program incorporating the Nurse of the Future Nursing Core Competencies. New graduate nurses are hired in cohorts. The cohort members attend nursing orientation together, followed by a series of educational days over 6 months. These activities, besides being educational, also bring the group together promoting social support and relevant discussion of common situations encountered in the first year of practice. The new graduate nurse residency includes a variety of experiential learning modalities that provide opportunities for assimilation and application of clinical theory and concepts to bedside practice.

Requirements

  • Must obtain licensure for practice in Massachusetts before the start date.
  • Must work full-time for six months in varying shifts.
  • Basic computer proficiency is inclusive of the ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and flu, as well as receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Must complete a background check before beginning employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the Medical Center preferred.
