About The Position

This is a New Graduate Nurse Residency Program for Fall 2026, designed for newly licensed Registered Nurses (RNs) with less than 12 months of nursing experience. The program aims to help residents attain the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet the standards of nursing practice relevant to the practice setting. The program has a specific timeline for application, interviews, selection, and a start date of September 14, 2026. The position is for a Registered Nurse I who works under the supervision of a Director. The RN I is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individualized patient care in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and the Nurse Practice Act. This role involves individualizing patient care based on age-appropriate and developmental needs, directing co-workers in care plan implementation, and collaborating with physicians, patients/families, and other healthcare team members. Residents must be flexible with their work schedule during the program and orientation, which will include varied 8-hour and 12-hour shifts with different start times to support training and operational needs. The company, Salinas Valley Health, is a 263-bed acute care medical center employing over 2,036 people and serving the Salinas Valley, Monterey Peninsula, and surrounding regions.

Requirements

  • Newly licensed RNs (or international equivalent) with less than 12 months of nursing experience
  • Graduate of an accredited ASN/ADN, BSN or MSN program
  • Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) is required
  • New hires and transfers must obtain BSN within four (4) years from hire
  • Must hold current Registered Nurse Licensure – issued by the State of California at time of hire
  • NCLEX: Exam status must be passed or scheduled
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification - issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire
  • Successfully completed SVH Pharmacology test
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individualized care in a patient care area according to departmental policies and procedures and Nurse Practice Act
  • Individualize patient care based upon the age appropriate and developmental needs
  • Accept responsibility for the direction of co-workers in the implementation of the plan of care
  • Collaborates with physicians, patient/families and members of the health care team in delivering a plan of care
  • Utilizes positive communication skills
  • May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients
  • Should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her unit
