About The Position

The New Graduate Training Program at Children’s Minnesota combines didactic and precepted clinical experiences to transition new graduate registered nurses from academic study to professional nursing practice. The program prepares nurses to coordinate and provide family-centered nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents using the nursing process. It emphasizes accountability for professional practice, including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members. Positions are in Med Surg, Critical Care, the Emergency Department, Operating Room, Neonatal Care, or the Float Team, at either the Minneapolis or St. Paul campus. Positions range from 0.6 to 0.9 FTE, and shifts vary. Initial orientation is generally on day shifts, Monday through Friday, until the nurse and their manager, preceptor, Clinical Educator, and Clinical Education Specialist agree they are ready to move to their hired shift and schedule. Orientation then continues on the hired shift and schedule according to the customized orientation plan and progress toward competency goals. The cohort starts February 15, 2027. Interviews begin 6–8 weeks before the program starts, and offers are extended 3–5 weeks before the start date. Resumes are required for consideration. Offers are contingent on completing an occupational health assessment, drug screen, background investigation, and U.S. Government Form I-9 employment eligibility verification.
