Locum MD (Medical Doctor), DO (Osteopathic Doctor) Neurology
About The Position
This on-site, contract position offers a unique opportunity to provide high-quality neurological care to patients while enjoying the flexibility of a locum tenens assignment in a vibrant coastal city. As a Locum Neurologist, you will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with a wide range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and chronic headache conditions. You will work within a collaborative healthcare environment alongside other physicians, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care that aligns with our commitment to clinical excellence and positive patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
- Board certification or board eligibility in Neurology
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of South Carolina, or the ability to obtain licensure in a timely manner
- Completion of an accredited residency program in Neurology
- Minimum of 1–2 years of clinical neurology experience, including residency training
- Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective patient interaction and documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems
- DEA registration and BLS/ACLS certification
Nice To Haves
- Fellowship training in a neurology subspecialty (e.g., stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular) is preferred
- Experience with EMG/EEG interpretation is a plus
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive neurological evaluations and patient consultations
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including EEG, EMG, MRI, and CT scans
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with neurological conditions
- Prescribe and manage medications, including anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants, and disease-modifying therapies
- Provide emergency neurological consultations and manage acute stroke cases as needed
- Collaborate with primary care physicians and specialists to coordinate patient care
- Document patient histories, examination findings, and treatment plans accurately in electronic medical records (EMR)
- Educate patients and their families about neurological conditions, treatment options, and preventive care
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions
- Adhere to all medical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in neurology and evidence-based practices
- Provide coverage for on-call rotations and inpatient consultations as scheduled
