Network Operations Manager
About The Position
The Manager of Network Operations is responsible for delivering network services across the distributed enterprise. The role has accountability for daily operations of network infrastructure, processes, technologies (WAN, LAN, WLAN, NAC, firewalls, and voice), and service-provider relationships, in partnership with business units and other functional stakeholders. Design and engineering activities are performed in collaboration with architecture, security teams, and business stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, the manager works with internal teams and managed services partners to maintain contractual service levels. The position oversees network operations and service delivery, issue resolution, service-provider performance, equipment and service lifecycle management, operating procedures, performance metrics, vendor governance, and evaluation and implementation of network technologies. It also advises IT projects to help ensure proposed solutions align with the operational capabilities of the Network services tower.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar area of study, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to perform the essential functions of the position.
- At least 6 years of work experience in an IT delivery role, preferably in Network Solutions.
- Experience with outsourced vendors and vendor contract management, including SLA review.
- Experience identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve them.
- Experience analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions, drive improvements, and find solutions.
- Prior experience designing, implementing, and operating IT network solutions while working with managed service providers.
- Ability to assess and communicate network concepts and practices to business and IT stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Aruba routing and switching technologies or equivalent, traffic engineering, and interpreting and acting on alert-management and performance-management reports.
Nice To Haves
- At least 10 years of work experience in an IT delivery role, preferably in Network Solutions.
- Network technology certification.
- Networking or related certification from a major cloud service provider.
Responsibilities
- Manage operational activities and oversee the operation and support of IT network systems.
- Proactively manage issues, ensure timely resolution, identify remediation opportunities, and resolve systemic issues to prevent recurrence.
- Review and approve request prioritizations.
- Partner with managed service providers to deliver against agreed service levels and continually improve operational service delivery.
- Maintain the lifecycle and currency of network equipment and services.
- Create and maintain internal documentation to improve consistency, repeatability, and efficiency in daily operations.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures, measure key performance indicators, and work to improve performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain vendor governance processes to maximize service value and optimize operations.
- Assist with evaluation, design, testing, and implementation of network technology solutions and line-of-business applications.
- Advise on IT projects to ensure proposed solutions align with the operational capabilities of network services.
- Collaborate with architecture, security, business stakeholders, internal teams, and managed services partners.
