Neonatology Physician Assistant Experienced
About The Position
Geisinger is seeking an experienced Neonatal Physician Assistant to join the NICU team at Geisinger Community Medical Center (GCMC) in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The service is centered around a private-room Level 2 NICU with 7 beds, located immediately adjacent to labor and delivery, and supports more than 2,000 deliveries annually. The physician assistant will work collaboratively with neonatologists, leadership, residents, and NICU nursing staff to care for critically ill and recovering term and preterm infants. The position offers flexible shift combinations of 8-, 16-, and 24-hour shifts. The work includes delivery attendance and management, NICU admissions, patient assessments and ongoing management, and applicable neonatal procedures and ventilator management.
Requirements
- Must be an experienced Neonatal Physician Assistant.
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Certified Physician Assistant credential from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Knowledge of care management, clinical policies and standards, health information documentation, patient assessment and care, patient safety, and patients' rights.
Responsibilities
- Attend deliveries and manage infants in the delivery room for all infants less than 35 weeks gestation and other high-risk indications.
- Admit patients, including taking histories and performing physical examinations.
- Assess and provide ongoing management for current NICU patients.
- Perform intubations.
- Place umbilical lines.
- Place chest tubes.
- Perform arterial punctures.
- Place arterial lines.
- Manage ventilators.
- Perform other applicable duties.
