About The Position

The University of Michigan Health - Sparrow is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Neonatology Nurse Practitioners to join the Neonatology team located in Lansing, Michigan. Per Diem requirement is 3 shifts per month.

Requirements

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program completion
  • BLS
  • Maintenance of certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with a national certification and advanced training in neonatal medicine
  • Completion of hospital credentialing
  • RN with current Michigan License
  • Minimal completion of a Bachelor of Science of Nursing
  • Completion of neonatal nurse practitioner approved program
  • Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate nursing and medical interventions
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other Hospital Associates
  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in his/her assigned service area as related to the principle duties and responsibilities of this position
  • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Providing assessment, evaluation and treatment of neonates in the RNICU in collaboration with the Neonatologists.
  • Assessing, planning, and evaluating medical care in collaboration with the Neonatologists.
  • Reporting accurately and concisely in-patient care rounds and problem-oriented documentation.
  • Collaborating with the health care team in planning and coordinating care for the neonate and his/her family through care conferences.
  • Ordering diagnostic studies and therapeutic measures in collaboration with the responsible physician.
  • Ordering medications utilizing approved NICU goals, guidelines and protocols (includes blood and blood products).
  • Attending high-risk deliveries, resuscitating and stabilizing patients.
  • Determining the need for and performing core specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and other procedures.
  • Performing exchange transfusion, initiation of oscillator ventilator support, pericardiocentesis, thoracotomy for chest tube insertion after consultation with a Neonatologist (unless life-threatening situation).
  • Providing direction to NNTS on transport or participating on transports when appropriate.
  • Providing consultation to Newborn Nursery and Perinatal areas.
  • Assisting in clinical supervision and teaching of residents, advanced practice nursing students, and PA students.
  • Participating in performance evaluations.
  • Formulating long and short-term goals based on self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses.
  • Participating as appropriate in the formulation, revision and implementation of policies and procedures in the RNICU.
  • Participating in performance improvement.
  • Assisting in maintaining a climate conducive to open communication.
  • Acting as a role model and resource for peers, residents and nursing staff.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations, the Corporate Compliance Plan, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

  • Demonstrating knowledge and respecting patient, service provider, and organizational confidentiality procedures and protocols defined under HIPAA privacy procedures when using and/or disclosing protected health information.

  • Applying research findings in one's practice and teaching.
  • Supporting and participating in research activities.
  • Promoting understanding of research projects and/or findings for nursing students, staff, and peers.
