The National Sales Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining customer relationships, identifying and closing new sales opportunities, and assessing business opportunities to solve challenges through outsourced/managed transportation services. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the industry and customer market segments to apply appropriate sales techniques. The position involves a multi-tier approach to sales activities, including telephone calls, face-to-face meetings, prospecting, qualifying, lead generation, and cold calling. The manager will monitor and follow up with customer sales representatives on new leads, conduct regular cold calls to find potential business opportunities, and quote customers on new lanes. Sales trips may be required to visit customer prospects, and the role involves designing and presenting sales presentations. The National Sales Manager will coordinate closely with the VP of Business Development. Ancillary duties include collaborating with Operations Management to support sales operations, assist in establishing performance goals, cover functional responsibilities when necessary, and effectively onboard and distribute new business. The role also involves rehabilitating existing sales accounts, collaborating during bidding processes to validate ratings, establishing and implementing effective operational procedures, identifying problems before they occur, booking available freight cost-effectively, resolving billing issues, and monitoring customer scorecards to meet performance metrics. The manager will also develop, analyze, and run sales reports to share with operations managers for sales performance and growth measurement. Accessibility by cell phone and email after hours and weekends is expected, and observed performance issues should be communicated to operations managers.
