National Accounts Project Manager

Fortis Fire & SafetySchaumburg, IL
Hybrid

About The Position

The National Accounts Project Manager leads the end-to-end delivery of multi-site fire protection and life safety projects spanning electronic security systems (CCTV/video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, burglar alarm) as well as fire alarm and fire sprinkler work for Fortis's national account customers. Operating with a high degree of independence, this role owns program-level execution across concurrent projects and geographies, with direct accountability for schedule, cost, quality, and daily reporting. Above all, we are looking for a proven project management professional: someone with deep command of PM fundamentals who can step into a field-facing, travel-heavy environment and serve as the trusted single point of contact for enterprise customers, subcontractors, and internal branch teams.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive project management experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects; construction, low-voltage, MEP, or trades-adjacent environments strongly preferred.
  • Proven command of core PM disciplines: schedule development and control, cost management and forecasting, quality assurance, risk management, and structured daily/weekly status reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing competing priorities across concurrent, geographically dispersed projects.
  • Experience managing multi-site or multi-state programs for national or enterprise-level customers strongly preferred.
  • Industry experience with electronic security systems (CCTV, access control, intrusion detection), fire alarm, or fire sprinkler systems is a strong plus, but not required; familiarity with NFPA standards and AHJ processes is a plus.
  • PMP certification preferred; equivalent combination of formal PM training and hands-on project delivery experience considered.
  • Proficiency with project management and reporting tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, Procore, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface credibly with executive customer stakeholders, field technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Experience managing subcontractor relationships, including scope enforcement, schedule coordination, and quality verification.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50%+ of the time, including overnight and multi-day trips nationwide.
  • Ability to meet company driving eligibility requirements, including a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary project owner for assigned national account programs, managing multiple concurrent installation and retrofit projects (security systems, fire alarm, and fire sprinkler) across multiple states and customer sites.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce detailed project schedules; proactively identify slippage risks and drive recovery plans to protect committed milestones and customer opening/turnover dates.
  • Own project financial performance, including budget development, cost tracking, forecasting, change order management, and margin protection from kickoff through closeout.
  • Establish and enforce quality standards for installations in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and AHJ expectations; conduct site walks, punch list management, and final commissioning oversight.
  • Produce accurate, timely daily field reports and program-level status reporting for internal leadership and customer stakeholders, including progress against schedule, labor utilization, open issues, and risk items.
  • Coordinate and direct internal technicians, subcontractors, and third-party vendors; verify subcontractor compliance with scope, schedule, safety, and badging/credentialing requirements.
  • Manage procurement coordination, equipment delivery logistics, and staging to align material availability with installation sequencing.
  • Lead customer-facing communications including kickoff meetings, recurring status calls, escalation management, and executive-level program reviews.
  • Partner with sales, engineering, and branch operations teams on project handoff, scope validation, and constructability reviews for new awards.
