The Music Therapy Intern program is a paid internship that provides intensive working experience in music therapy. The program emphasizes cultural awareness and issues related to equity and diversity, and supports students through an equity lens while seeking to educate and support students who reflect the diversity of the patients and families served. Music therapy interns develop and provide interventions under the supervision of a Board Certified Music Therapist at Children’s Minnesota. Music therapy is an evidence-based allied health profession that applies music clinically to address individualized physical, cognitive, emotional, or social goals. Patients may receive individual, group, or family music therapy sessions. Interns receive clinical supervision from board-certified music therapists and other healthcare professionals; observe, co-lead, and lead individual, family, and group sessions; and eventually manage their own schedule and caseload during the leadership portion of the internship. By the end of the internship, interns are expected to meet all AMTA-designated competencies required to sit for board certification.
