Music Therapy Intern

Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota•Minneapolis, MN

About The Position

The Music Therapy Intern program at Children’s Minnesota is a paid internship providing intensive working experience in music therapy. The program emphasizes cultural awareness and issues related to equity and diversity, and supports students working from an equity lens who reflect the diversity of the patients and families served. Under the supervision of a Board Certified Music Therapist, interns develop and provide music therapy interventions. Music therapy uses the clinical applications of music to address individualized non-musical goals, including physical, cognitive, emotional, and social goals. Patients may receive individual, group, or family music therapy sessions. Interns participate in clinical supervision with board-certified music therapists and other healthcare professionals; observe, co-lead, and lead individual, family, and group sessions; and eventually manage their own schedule and caseload during the leadership portion of the internship. By the end of the internship, interns are expected to meet all AMTA-designated competencies required to sit for board certification. Children’s Minnesota is an independent, not-for-profit pediatric health system serving children from before birth through young adulthood. It operates hospitals, clinics, and rehabilitation sites throughout the Upper Midwest and describes itself as an equal opportunity employer.
