About The Position

The Multi-Purpose Clerk - Night Crew works across a variety of clerk positions and is cross-trained and internally certified for these roles on an ongoing basis. The position supports grocery operations by stocking and displaying products, pricing new items, processing deliveries, rotating and packing merchandise, and maintaining inventory accuracy. Additional duties include order writing, freshness and quality checks, checking item-to-tag integrity, maintaining appropriate temperatures in cases and coolers, and limited operation of a cash register. The clerk reports safety risks, keeps work areas clean and free of hazards, and may operate a forklift or commercial baler when authorized and certified.

This role is based in a grocery store and requires overnight availability, as well as availability for a variety of retail shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work may take place in areas with fluctuating temperatures, including cold rooms and freezer units. The role involves frequent standing and other physical activity, including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of heavy items.

Requirements

• At least three months of experience or equivalent experience.
• High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience or training.
• Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
• Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and be enthusiastic and flexible on the job.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
• Strong teamwork skills and willingness to learn and work hard.
• Availability to work a variety of retail shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Availability to work overnight shifts.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance and lift up to 85 pounds on occasion.
• Ability to carry up to 80 pounds on occasion.
• Ability to push up to 85 pounds on occasion.
• Ability to pull up to 92 pounds on occasion.
• Ability to stand and perform other physical movements frequently.
• Ability to work in varying store temperatures, including cold rooms and freezer units.
• Ability to operate tools and equipment including a step stool, carts, register, safety cutter, rolling ladder, food preparation equipment, ovens, warmers, food mixers, meat-cutting instruments, pallet jacks, packaging components and equipment, and cleaning supplies.

Responsibilities

• Receive, stock, display, price, and face products.
• Break down loads, including unwrapping, rotating, and packing boxes.
• Write orders and maintain item-to-tag integrity.
• Report risks and safety issues to management.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers.
• Maintain inventory accuracy.
• Perform minimal checking on the cash register.
• Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
• Know the location of the MSDS binder and information about materials used during work.
• Operate a forklift when authorized and certified.
• Operate a commercial baler when authorized to compress cardboard.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
