About The Position
The Multi-Purpose Clerk - Night Crew performs a variety of grocery store clerk duties and is cross-trained and internally certified for these positions on an ongoing basis. Work includes stocking and displaying grocery products, pricing new items, receiving and breaking down shipments, rotating and packing boxes, and maintaining product freshness and quality. Additional duties may include order writing, checking item-to-tag integrity, maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and minimal operation of a cash register. The role also involves keeping work areas clean and free of hazards, including sweeping and mopping sales floors, front-end areas, back rooms, and refrigerated areas. The position works overnight in a grocery store, with work locations that may vary in temperature, including cold rooms and freezer units.
Requirements
- At least three months of experience or equivalent experience.
- High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience or training.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation.
- Ability to be proactive, show initiative, be enthusiastic, and be flexible on the job.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- Strong team-player skills and willingness to learn and work hard.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Availability to work a variety of retail-hour shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to work overnight.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance and lift up to 85 pounds on occasion; carry up to 80 pounds on occasion; push up to 85 pounds on occasion; and pull up to 92 pounds on occasion.
- Ability to stand and perform other physical movements frequently, and work in varying temperatures, including cold rooms and freezer units.
- Ability to operate listed tools and equipment, including step stools, carts, registers, safety cutters, rolling ladders, food-preparation equipment, ovens, warmers, food mixers, meat-cutting instruments, pallet jacks, packaging equipment, and cleaning supplies.
Responsibilities
- Receive, stock, display, price, and face products.
- Break down loads, including unwrapping, rotating, and packing boxes.
- Perform order writing and maintain item-to-tag integrity.
- Report risks or safety issues to management.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers.
- Maintain inventory accuracy.
- Perform minimal checking on the cash register.
- Sweep and mop the sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas.
- Know the location of the MSDS binder and information about materials used during work.
- Operate a forklift if authorized and certified.
- Operate a commercial baler if authorized to compress cardboard.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
