About The Position

Agile Defense is hiring an MSS Developer Engineer to build and maintain mission-critical analytics and applications supporting J7 mission workflows at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The role develops operator-facing dashboards, applications, decision surfaces, self-service data exploration capabilities, and automated workflows, while ensuring the accuracy and consistency of MSS deliverables. The developer engineers data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack; integrates external data sources; and supports well-modeled data foundations for AI/AIP workflows. The position creates visualizations, interactive tools, alerts, and monitoring systems that help operators assess mission opportunities, risks, and performance. It also optimizes data models and queries, supports operators, documents analytical resources, contributes reusable platform content, and helps validate the FDE&T model for possible expansion to other commands. The position is onsite in a SCIF. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and hold at least an active Secret clearance. Depending on assignment, higher clearances such as TS/SCI may be required, and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative discipline; extensive Palantir experience may substitute.
  • At least 4 years of software or data engineering experience; data analysis or data science experience is also considered.
  • At least 1.5 years of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, Gotham, AIP, or MSS.
  • Demonstrated experience building dashboards, applications, or pipelines for operational end users.
  • Working proficiency in ontology design and pipeline authoring using PySpark, Code Repositories, or Pipeline Builder.
  • Active U.S. government security clearance; the posting also states candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess at least an active Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to work onsite in a SCIF.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain higher-level clearances, including TS/SCI, if required by project assignment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Palantir FDE/FDSE or comparable customer-embedded role experience.
  • Hands-on MSS experience.
  • Exposure to AIP agent or large language model workflows.
  • Familiarity with DoD data environments and classified networks.
  • Prior Combatant Command support.
  • Solid Python and SQL skills, with familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain operator-facing dashboards, applications, and decision surfaces aligned with J7 mission workflows.
  • Create self-service capabilities that enable operators to explore data independently.
  • Build automated workflows that deliver timely insights to stakeholders across the directorate.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across MSS deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack.
  • Integrate external data sources into a well-modeled data foundation.
  • Ensure AI/AIP workflows have a well-modeled data foundation and surface model outputs in operationally useful ways.
  • Work with mission leaders to understand analytical needs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Create data visualizations that communicate complex insights to diverse audiences.
  • Build interactive tools that let operators drill down into data and explore scenarios.
  • Design alerting and monitoring systems to identify mission opportunities and risks proactively.
  • Collaborate with teams to establish KPIs and success metrics that drive mission performance.
  • Develop efficient data models and query optimization strategies for fast, reliable reporting.
  • Implement caching and aggregation strategies to optimize dashboard and application performance.
  • Build scalable MSS solutions that support growing data volumes and user bases.
  • Provide day-to-day operator support and escalate complex platform issues to senior engineers as appropriate.
  • Contribute reusable platform content, including ontology patterns, dashboard templates, and integration recipes, to support continuous curriculum refresh.
  • Document data sources, metric definitions, and analytical methodologies.
  • Support validation of the FDE&T model for potential extension to additional Combatant Commands, Service components, and functional commands.
  • Stay current with MSS/Palantir technologies and advocate for tools and approaches that improve mission analytics.
