About The Position

Agile Defense is hiring an MSS Developer Engineer to build and maintain mission-critical analytics, applications, and decision-support tools aligned with J7 mission workflows. The role develops operator-facing dashboards and self-service capabilities, automates the delivery of insights, and ensures the accuracy and consistency of MSS deliverables. The engineer develops data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack; integrates external data sources into a well-modeled data foundation; and supports operationally useful AI/AIP workflows. Working with mission leaders and other teams, the role translates analytical needs into technical solutions, creates visualizations and interactive tools, and establishes alerting, monitoring, KPIs, and success metrics. The position also focuses on platform performance and scalability, including data modeling, query optimization, caching, and aggregation. It provides day-to-day operator support and escalates complex issues as appropriate. Additional duties include documenting data sources and analytical methods, contributing reusable platform content, supporting validation of the FDE&T model for potential expansion, and staying current with MSS and Palantir technologies. The role is based onsite in a SCIF in Falls Church, Virginia, and requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance at minimum; higher-level clearances may be required depending on assignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative discipline; extensive Palantir experience may substitute.
  • At least 4 years of software or data engineering experience; data analysis or data science experience is also considered.
  • At least 1.5 years of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, Gotham, AIP, or MSS.
  • Demonstrated experience building dashboards, applications, or pipelines for operational end users.
  • Working proficiency in ontology design and pipeline authoring using PySpark, Code Repositories, or Pipeline Builder.
  • Active U.S. government security clearance; the position requires U.S. citizenship and at least an active Secret clearance.
  • Ability to work onsite in a SCIF.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on MSS experience.
  • Exposure to AIP agent or large language model workflows.
  • Familiarity with DoD data environments and classified networks.
  • Prior Combatant Command support.
  • Solid Python and SQL skills, with familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure AI/AIP workflows use a well-modeled data foundation and surface model outputs in operationally useful ways.
  • Partner with mission leaders to understand analytical needs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Create data visualizations that communicate complex insights to diverse audiences.
  • Build interactive tools for operators to drill down into data and explore scenarios.
  • Design alerting and monitoring systems that proactively identify mission opportunities and risks.
  • Collaborate with teams to establish KPIs and success metrics that drive mission performance.
  • Develop efficient data models and query optimization strategies for reliable reporting.
  • Implement caching and aggregation strategies for dashboard and application performance.
  • Build scalable MSS solutions for growing data volumes and user bases.
  • Provide day-to-day operator support and escalate complex platform issues to senior engineers as appropriate.
  • Contribute reusable platform content, including ontology patterns, dashboard templates, and integration recipes, to support curriculum refresh.
  • Document data sources, metric definitions, and analytical methodologies for organizational knowledge.
