About The Position

Agile Defense is hiring an MSS Developer Engineer to build and maintain mission-critical analytics and applications supporting J7 mission workflows. The role develops operator-facing dashboards, applications, decision surfaces, self-service data exploration capabilities, and automated workflows that deliver timely insights. It also ensures the accuracy and consistency of MSS deliverables. The engineer develops and maintains data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack; integrates external data sources into a well-modeled data foundation; and supports AI/AIP workflows by ensuring their data foundations are properly modeled and their outputs are useful operationally. The role partners with mission leaders to translate analytical needs into technical solutions and builds visualizations, interactive tools, alerts, and monitoring systems that support data-driven decisions. Additional work includes optimizing data models and queries, applying caching and aggregation strategies, scaling MSS solutions as data volumes and user populations grow, and providing day-to-day operator support. The engineer contributes reusable platform content and documentation, supports validation of the FDE&T model for potential expansion, and stays current with MSS/Palantir technologies. The position is onsite at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and requires work in a SCIF. Candidates must be U.S. citizens with an active Secret clearance at minimum; higher clearances, including TS/SCI, may be required depending on assignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative discipline; extensive Palantir experience may substitute.
  • At least 4 years of software or data engineering experience; data analysis or data science experience is also considered.
  • At least 1.5 years of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, Gotham, AIP, or MSS.
  • Demonstrated experience building dashboards, applications, or pipelines for operational end users.
  • Working proficiency in ontology design and pipeline authoring using PySpark, Code Repositories, or Pipeline Builder.
  • Active U.S. government security clearance; candidates must be U.S. citizens and possess at least an active Secret clearance.
  • Ability to work onsite in a SCIF.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Palantir FDE/FDSE experience or a comparable customer-embedded role.
  • Hands-on MSS experience.
  • Exposure to AIP agents or large language model workflows.
  • Familiarity with DoD data environments and classified networks.
  • Prior Combatant Command support.
  • Solid Python and SQL skills, with familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain operator-facing dashboards, applications, and decision surfaces aligned to J7 mission workflows.
  • Create self-service capabilities that let operators explore data independently.
  • Build automated workflows that deliver timely insights to stakeholders across the directorate.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across MSS deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack.
  • Integrate external data sources into a well-modeled data foundation.
  • Ensure AI/AIP workflows have a well-modeled data foundation and surface model outputs in operationally useful ways.
  • Partner with mission leaders to understand analytical needs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Create data visualizations that communicate complex insights to diverse audiences.
  • Build interactive tools that let operators drill down into data and explore scenarios.
  • Design alerting and monitoring systems to identify mission opportunities and risks proactively.
  • Collaborate with teams to establish KPIs and success metrics that drive mission performance.
  • Develop efficient data models and query optimization strategies for fast, reliable reporting.
  • Implement caching and aggregation strategies to improve dashboard and application performance.
  • Build scalable MSS solutions for growing data volumes and user bases.
  • Provide day-to-day operator support and escalate complex platform issues to senior engineers as appropriate.
  • Contribute reusable platform content, including ontology patterns, dashboard templates, and integration recipes, to support continuous curriculum refresh.
  • Document data sources, metric definitions, and analytical methodologies for organizational knowledge.
  • Support validation of the FDE&T model for potential extension to additional Combatant Commands, Service components, and functional commands.
  • Stay current with MSS/Palantir technologies and advocate for tools and approaches that improve mission analytics.
