About The Position

Agile Defense is hiring an MSS Developer Engineer to build and maintain mission-critical analytics and applications supporting J7 mission workflows at Fort Meade, Maryland. The role develops operator-facing dashboards, applications, decision surfaces, self-service data exploration capabilities, and automated workflows that deliver timely insights. It also ensures the accuracy and consistency of MSS deliverables. The position involves hands-on engineering on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack, including data pipelines, ontology, access controls, and integration of external data sources. The developer supports AI/AIP workflows by establishing well-modeled data foundations and surfacing model outputs in operationally useful ways. The role also creates visualizations, interactive analytical tools, alerting and monitoring systems, and performance metrics in collaboration with mission stakeholders. The MSS Developer Engineer optimizes data models, queries, caching, and aggregation for reliable and scalable applications, provides day-to-day operator support, and escalates complex platform issues to senior engineers. The role contributes reusable platform content and documentation, supports validation of the FDE&T model for possible use by additional commands, and stays current with MSS and Palantir technologies. The position requires onsite work in a SCIF. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and hold an active Secret clearance at minimum; some assignments may require higher clearances, including TS/SCI, which candidates must be able to obtain and maintain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a quantitative discipline; extensive Palantir experience may substitute.
  • At least 4 years of software or data engineering experience; data analysis or data science experience is also considered.
  • At least 1.5 years of hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry, Gotham, AIP, or MSS.
  • Demonstrated experience building dashboards, applications, or pipelines for operational end users.
  • Working proficiency in ontology design and pipeline authoring using PySpark, Code Repositories, or Pipeline Builder.
  • Active U.S. government security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to work onsite in a SCIF.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain higher-level clearances, including TS/SCI, if required by project assignment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Palantir FDE/FDSE or comparable customer-embedded role.
  • Hands-on MSS experience.
  • AIP agent or large language model workflow exposure.
  • Familiarity with DoD data environments and classified networks.
  • Prior Combatant Command support.
  • Solid Python and SQL skills, with familiarity in JavaScript/TypeScript.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain operator-facing dashboards, applications, and decision surfaces aligned to J7 mission workflows.
  • Create self-service capabilities that allow operators to explore data independently.
  • Build automated workflows that deliver timely insights to stakeholders across the directorate.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across MSS deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, ontology, and access controls on MSS and the underlying Palantir stack.
  • Integrate external data sources into a well-modeled data foundation.
  • Support AI/AIP workflows with a well-modeled data foundation and surface model outputs in operationally useful ways.
  • Translate analytical needs from mission leaders into technical solutions.
  • Create data visualizations that communicate complex insights to diverse audiences.
  • Build interactive tools that let operators drill down into data and explore scenarios.
  • Design alerting and monitoring systems to identify mission opportunities and risks proactively.
  • Collaborate with teams to establish KPIs and success metrics for mission performance.
  • Develop efficient data models and query optimization strategies for fast, reliable reporting.
  • Implement caching and aggregation strategies to optimize dashboard and application performance.
  • Build scalable MSS solutions for growing data volumes and user bases.
  • Provide day-to-day operator support and escalate complex platform issues to senior engineers as appropriate.
  • Contribute reusable platform content, including ontology patterns, dashboard templates, and integration recipes, to support continuous curriculum refresh.
  • Document data sources, metric definitions, and analytical methodologies.
  • Support validation of the FDE&T model for potential extension to additional Combatant Commands, Service components, and functional commands.
  • Stay current with MSS and Palantir technologies and advocate for tools and approaches that improve mission analytics.
