This role is located at MGH Chelsea (outpatient) and operates on Saturdays & Sundays from 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM. The department currently closes on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Free on-site parking is available for staff. Mass General Imaging in Chelsea offers the same support, resources, and expertise that MGH is known for in a state-of-the-art outpatient imaging suite.

Requirements

Certificate/Diploma in medical imaging required
MRI Registered Technologist with ARRT or ARMRIT within 1 year
BLS within 90 days

Responsibilities

Safely perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies using a magnetic resonance imaging system.
Prepare patients, position them, set imaging parameters, acquire images, perform computer processing, and display images.
Select appropriate imaging protocols for patient studies and perform quality assurance scans as required.
Work cohesively as a team member within the MRI Department and consult appropriate content experts as needed (e.g., radiologist, nurse, child life specialist).
Rotate to MRI scanners across the assigned department as needed.
Confirm patient name, date of birth, medical record number, and MRI exam ordered with each patient per Joint Commission (JC) guidelines.
Prepare patients, position for exams, set imaging parameters per protocol, perform computer processing, and display images for both clinical and research patients.
Perform routine outpatient exams with and without contrast.
Optimize scan parameters due to patient condition to maintain diagnostic quality.
Manage MRI safety components for all exams and participate in clinical care coordination.
Insert IV catheters as needed and prepare for and perform intravenous injection of MR contrast agents, including the use of the MR compatible power injector.
Understand and communicate possible contraindications for contrast agents, and monitor for and respond to adverse reactions.
Record all information regarding contrast injections appropriately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Perform point of care testing (POCT) where applicable.
Instruct patients and visitors on MRI safety procedures and ensure adherence to safety policies by all persons entering the MRI area.
Function as the final checkpoint, prior to scanning, for patient safety and protocol clarification per department policy.
Identify hazardous system malfunctions; secure the area and remove patients and personnel from the magnet bay during emergency situations.
Perform scheduled quality control procedures on the MRI scanner and other related equipment.
Record QA results as required.
Report any potential equipment-related problems to the supervisor as necessary.
Assist other department staff in various duties as necessary (e.g., scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory, filing, etc.).
