About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Direct Client Service Specialist position is based in South Burlington, and is responsible for customer service and examiner work for the Department of Motor Vehicles. Duties include conducting road and CDL written examinations. Additionally, the incumbent will process registrations, license renewals, new licenses, duplicates, non-driver identifications, and proper calculation and collection of fees. This is not a remote position and work will take place within DMV offices. This is a temporary position and it is anticipated this position will work approximately 40 hours per week for seven (7) months. This position is open to all State employees and external applicants. An applicant must agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation to be eligible for this position, which may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks. Incumbents must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure before the public eye and from telephone inquiries. Due to significant public contact, exposure to contagious illnesses is a daily risk. Incumbents must be able to multi-task and prioritize unpredictable workloads, deal with confused, frustrated, and highly upset customers, and handle large sums of money. Occasional trips outdoors when verifying vehicle identification numbers are required. The incumbent must be able to perform several job duties within several different units, possibly in the same day, and travel to other offices with minimal notice to assist when staffing shortages occur and various scheduled hours.

Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years of work experience in a customer or client service role such as retail, hospitality or government that included significant public contact and regular use of computer programs
  • OR Four (4) or more months of work experience in the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in licensing or registration meeting proficiency standards set by the Department
  • Agree to be finger-printed and pass a background investigation (may include criminal, financial and traffic records checks)
  • Maintain a minimum production level of 3+ transactions per hour with a 1% or less error rate
  • Proficiency in license or registration
  • Proficiency in 2 or more of the job duties referenced on the matrix for a minimum of 4 months
  • Private means of transportation may be required
