About The Position

Eastern State Hospital (ESH) is seeking board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrists with fully unrestricted Virginia medical licenses to serve as Medical Officers on Duty (MOD) and provide onsite psychiatric and medical coverage. The position offers physicians an opportunity to supplement their income and gain experience assessing and triaging psychiatric and general medical conditions in an acute adult inpatient population. The MOD must remain onsite for the entire shift and has access to a furnished bedroom in the MOD lounge. Applicants must be available to work at least two shifts per month. Shifts are scheduled based on availability and preference. Moonlighting shifts may be worked consecutively but may not exceed 48 consecutive hours or 1,560 hours per calendar year. Malpractice insurance is covered by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The role is based at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia. Scheduled shifts are Monday through Friday, 5:00 PM–8:00 AM; weekends, 8:00 AM–8:00 PM and 8:00 PM–8:00 AM; and holidays, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM and 5:00 PM–8:00 AM.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
Completion of or enrollment in an accredited or approved psychiatry residency training program.
Fully unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Valid DEA registration.
Must live within driving distance of the campus.
Availability to work at least two shifts per month.
