About The Position

The Monitor Tech monitors patients’ heart rhythms using telemetry equipment to detect abnormal pattern variances. The role reviews patient information to determine normal rhythm patterns, current patterns, and prior variances, and observes cardiac monitor screens and listens for alarms to identify abnormal changes. The position serves patients at Kindred Hospital Houston Sugarland and its Acute Rehabilitation Unit, which provide specialized care for people with complex medical needs, including hospital-level treatment for chronically and critically ill patients and rehabilitation after acute injuries, impairments, or illnesses.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role (preferred).
• Current BLS certification.
• Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Good and regular attendance.
• Satisfactory score on an EKG interpretation competency test.
• Ability to accurately identify cardiac rhythms and understand their significance.

Nice To Haves

• EKG certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patient telemetry for changes in cardiac rhythms.
• Remove and clean telemetry boxes when patients are discharged from telemetry.
• Maintain accurate records of telemetry patients.
• Immediately notify the RN or supervisor of rhythm changes.
• Assign transmitters and wires and set up the monitor system for patients ordered for telemetry.
• Troubleshoot transmitters and wires and the monitor system for patients ordered for telemetry.
• Stay current with federal, state, and local food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
