About The Position
The Monitor Tech observes cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role works in a centralized monitoring environment serving patients across multiple departments. The Monitor Tech reports rhythm changes, supports telemetry equipment management, communicates system or transmission problems, and maintains organized monitoring areas. The position also includes training and development activities for new staff and participation in required educational programs and meetings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; no minimum education requirement stated.
- No previous experience required; previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- After hire, attend a formal arrhythmia training class and pass the Prisma Health Arrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score within two attempts and within 30 days of hire.
- Maintain arrhythmia competencies annually while working in a monitor tech role.

Responsibilities
- Observe cardiac monitors and report changes in cardiac rhythm according to policy.
- Receive report from the previous shift and document strips according to policy.
- Manage and distribute transmitter boxes, and ensure they are returned to the surveillance center promptly after telemetry monitoring is discontinued.
- Report poor transmission and related problems to the appropriate unit and personnel.
- Report telemetry system failures to designated personnel and departments.
- Complete telemetry summary reports according to policy guidelines.
- Triage incoming phone calls, provide appropriate information calmly and concisely, and log calls.
- Maintain adequate supplies and keep monitoring areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Participate in training and the ongoing development of new staff.
- Attend educational programs, in-services, and meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
