About The Position
North America Central School Bus is hiring a part-time School Bus Monitor / School Bus Aide in Waukegan, Illinois. The role involves monitoring passengers’ welfare and maintaining order while the bus is en route, helping students board and leave the bus, and supporting the driver with inspections, safety procedures, communication, paperwork, and bus cleaning. The listed pay range is $15.70–$16.70, with wages based on experience.
Requirements
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Hold a valid state ID.
- Pass a background check, drug screen, and physical.
Responsibilities
- Know the route and remain alert to monitor passengers’ welfare while en route.
- Keep order on the bus.
- Communicate behavior problems and conditions at stops to the driver.
- Cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents, and students.
- Assist with pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections, including child checks, CSRS, and wheelchair lifts.
- Assist students during loading and unloading.
- Attend safety and training meetings.
- Conduct emergency evacuations from the bus, including through the emergency door; the role may require physically removing a disabled child from the bus.
- Assist the driver in completing required paperwork for the district, state, ICSB, and other parties.
- Clean the inside of the bus, including sweeping, dusting, and cleaning windows.
- Perform other specialized functions as required by contract.
