About The Position

Flex is seeking a Mold Design Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 at its Buffalo Grove, IL site. This role offers the opportunity to support engineering teams with daily tasks, learn about plastic injection mold design, and gain hands-on manufacturing experience. The intern will work alongside Engineers and cross-functional teams, attend various meetings, and contribute to continuous improvement projects. This internship is ideal for a student enthusiastic about manufacturing and eager to develop their skills in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

• Junior/Senior student pursuing Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Available to work 40 hours/week (in-person) for 10-12 week Summer assignment
• Currently enrolled in 4-year accredited university
• 3.0 minimum GPA

Nice To Haves

• Enthusiastic about working in a manufacturing environment and interest in plastic injection molding process
• Highly collaborative, creative and excellent communication skills
• Solidworks CAD and troubleshooting knowledge highly desired
• Previous internship experience a plus!

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineering Team with continuous improvement project(s)
• Attend Design Status, Customer/Internal Review and Continuous Improvement Meetings
• Complete assigned work orders and provide 2D and 3D models
• Learn fundamentals of plastic injection mold design
• Update design guidelines and standards
• Work with the Tool Shop to obtain hands-on manufacturing experience
