About The Position

Sophinea is an AI, data, and analytics firm in Manassas, Virginia, serving federal and commercial clients since 2018. The company builds AI products, including Halo, its secure AI and analytics platform. The Mobile App Developer Intern will help build mobile apps that bring AI and data capabilities to users on the go. The intern will write production code, ship features, and learn how a professional software team plans, reviews, and releases work. This is a paid, part-time, semester-long internship of about 10–15 hours per week. The role is hybrid in Manassas, Virginia, with on-site collaboration and remote days. Interns receive mentorship from senior engineers and gain hands-on experience with modern mobile, cloud, and AI tooling.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
Coursework or project experience building at least one mobile or web app.
Programming experience in JavaScript/TypeScript, Dart, Swift, or Kotlin.
Familiarity with Git and working in a shared codebase.
Understanding of REST APIs and how apps fetch and display data.
Able to work on-site in Manassas on hybrid days.

Nice To Haves

An app published to the App Store or Google Play, or a public GitHub portfolio.
Experience with backend services such as Supabase or Firebase.
Experience calling LLM APIs such as Claude or OpenAI from an app.
Interest in mobile security and privacy practices.

Responsibilities

Build and test features for iOS and Android apps using React Native, Flutter, Swift, or Kotlin.
Turn UI/UX designs into responsive, accessible screens.
Connect apps to backend services and APIs, including AI and analytics services.
Write unit and integration tests and help fix bugs.
Participate in code reviews, standups, and sprint planning using GitHub and Linear.
Help prepare builds for testing and app store release.
