This role is for a skilled mechanic who, under direct supervision, safely performs diagnostic, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment such as Haul Trucks, Water Trucks, Rubber Tire and Track Dozers, Front-end Loaders, and Motor Graders. Employees will rotate approximately every six (6) months through various assignments supporting Heavy Duty Truck Shop, Light Vehicle Shop, Lube Truck/Fuel Dock Attendant, and Tool Room.

Requirements

  • One (1) year experience in Heavy Equipment mechanical/maintenance or a combination of education and experience in industrial mechanical repair and maintenance
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures and applicable safety standards
  • Ability to read and use schematics
  • Possesses knowledge of machine systems, such as, hydraulic, power train, and engines
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude.
  • The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with and performs the removal, repair and installation of transmissions, engines, breaks, differentials, pumps, motors, torque convertors, final drives and other heavy equipment systems or components.
  • Performs mechanical and lubrication preventative maintenance on machine systems such as: hydraulic, power train and engines.
  • May perform welding such as: Carbon arc, Plasma, Mig, Tig, and Stick.
  • May operate equipment such as: Overhead cranes, forklifts, and boom trucks.
  • Responsible for maintaining work orders, a clean and safe work area and performing work area inspections.
  • Performs other duties as required.
