About The Position

This role involves the repair and maintenance of tools and dies. Responsibilities include working from work orders and production schedules, setting up and changing over dies, troubleshooting and repairing operating problems, and performing various machine and bench operations. The position requires precision work, including making decisions on fits, finishes, machining, and assembly sequences while maintaining close tolerances. The individual will also be responsible for documenting activities, reporting blueprint errors, suggesting improvements, assisting with die setting, operating equipment like forklifts and overhead cranes, and adhering to safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in working from MLS work orders and recording labor and inventory transactions.
  • Ability to work from production schedules to stage dies.
  • Skill in setting up blade dies and utility press dies.
  • Experience in changing over dies, disassembling, and replacing parts.
  • Capability to make decisions regarding fits, finishes, machining, and assembly sequences while maintaining close tolerances.
  • Experience interacting with shop floor computer terminals for time and production recording.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operating problems with tools and dies, determine appropriate action, and make repairs.
  • Experience disassembling, repairing, replacing, adjusting, preparing, and trying out dies.
  • Proficiency in operating a wide range of machine and bench operations for servicing and repairing tools and dies.
  • Experience altering and repairing various tools, templates, and dies (blanking, piercing, bending, forming, drawing, stamping dies, welding, drilling, assembly templates, jigs, and fixtures).
  • Ability to perform difficult bench work including filing, grinding, lapping, fitting, and polishing.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, verniers, and comparators.
  • Ability to visualize finished jobs, perform mathematical calculations, and select allowances for finishing processes.
  • Skill in reporting blueprint errors to supervision.
  • Ability to suggest changes to improve die or part performance.
  • Experience assisting with die setting at presses.
  • Certification or experience operating a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Ability to detect and report faulty equipment, defective material, improper operations, and unusual conditions.
  • Adherence to all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work area.

Responsibilities

  • Work from MLS work orders and record labor and inventory transactions in MLS.
  • Work from production schedule to stage housing side and utility press dies.
  • Setup all blade dies and utility press dies.
  • Change over dies in tool room; take dies apart and change out details to run a variety of different parts.
  • Make decisions as to fits, finishes, machining and assembly sequences, maintaining close tolerances.
  • Interact with shop floor computer terminals to record time and production activities.
  • Trouble shoot operating problems with tools and dies, determine appropriate action and make repairs.
  • Disassemble worn or damaged die, determine extent of wear or damage, repair, replace, adjust, prepare and tryout die.
  • Operate a wide range of machine and bench operations relating to servicing and repairing tools and dies.
  • Alter and repair a variety of tools, templates and dies including blanking, piercing, bending, forming, drawing and other stamping dies; welding, drilling and assembly templates, jigs and fixtures.
  • Perform difficult bench work involving filing, grinding, lapping, fitting and polishing.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, verniers, comparator, and other precision measuring instruments to maintain close tolerances.
  • Visualize finished job and make necessary mathematical calculations and select allowances for lapping, grinding, finishing, and fitting.
  • Report blueprint errors such as improper dimensions to supervision.
  • Suggest changes to dies or parts that will improve performance or eliminate waste.
  • Assist with die setting at presses.
  • Operate forklift and overhead crane as required.
  • Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material, improper operations and unusual conditions to supervision.
  • Observe all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
