About The Position

The Millwright / Industrial Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing manufacturing equipment to ensure smooth and continuous operation. This role operates within plant operations' safety and quality programs, emphasizing a safe and quality-minded working environment. The position requires compliance with LOTO procedures and other Safety Absolutes. The mechanic will perform mechanical repair tasks, install and modify equipment with minimal supervision, and handle hazardous materials safely. Responsibilities also include cleaning up waste and debris, managing generated wastes, and reporting any hazardous material spills. Training and assisting other mechanics, collaborating with production operators, and performing routine tasks like screen pack changes, die settings/cleaning, and bearing replacement are key duties. Effective communication during shift changes, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, checking air compressors, determining staffing needs, and lubricating machinery are also essential. The role involves removing and cleaning equipment and trash from work areas, proper use of maintenance shop tools, participating in continuous improvement, and performing minor welding and cutting repairs. Additionally, the mechanic will check and repair production equipment during preventative maintenance, identify and address potential problems to minimize downtime, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent attendance and safety record.
  • Knowledge of ISO, AIB uses and other quality policies.
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Good working knowledge of the extrusion process and related processes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain strong teamwork relationships.
  • Maintain and convey a positive attitude at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Works in accordance with plant operations’ safety and quality programs, to provide a safe and quality minded working environment.
  • Performs mechanical repair tasks submitted on work orders by Production or any other department as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Installs/modifies equipment with minimum supervision
  • Responsible for safe handling of hazardous materials during performance of maintenance activities.
  • Responsible for cleanup of wastes and debris resulting from maintenance activities and proper management of the wastes generated.
  • Responsible for notification to appropriate plant personnel or emergency coordinators if and when a hazardous material or waste is spilled during material handling activities
  • Train and assist other mechanics when applicable and collaborate professionally with production operators and other personnel.
  • Performs routine work with limited supervision such as chrome roll, rubber roll and extruder screen pack changes, die settings/cleaning and bearing replacement.
  • Communicate effectively at shift change with millwrights, supervisors, and operators.
  • Troubleshoots any malfunction on production equipment and facility equipment with minimum supervision
  • Responsible for checking air compressors for proper operation during his shift.
  • Determine staffing and assign persons to the lines to meet quality and production standards.
  • Must be familiar with all types of lubrication used in the plant and where the various types are used and lubricates all machine oilers during his shift.
  • Responsible for removing and cleaning all equipment and trash from the work area when a maintenance job has been completed.
  • Responsible for using Maintenance shop tools and equipment properly on all production equipment, such as bearing pullers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of operations and production.
  • Must be familiar with welding and cutting equipment and makes minor repairs when necessary during his shift.
  • Responsible for thoroughly checking/repairing production equipment during preventative maintenance functions and informing the Maintenance Supervisor of any potential problems not repairable during allotted preventative maintenance time.
  • Responsible for keeping the Maintenance Shop facilities and equipment clean and orderly at all times.
  • Responsible for identifying existing or potential problems and taking appropriate actions to prevent or reduce production equipment downtime for corrective maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by department supervisor/manager.

Benefits

  • Starting wage - $33.04 plus night-time shift differential $1.50/hr.
