About The Position

The Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ), Information Services Section, is hiring an Information Services Specialist 7 (Middleware Administrator) to support its IT Operations Team. This senior technical role provides expert engineering, administration, and lifecycle leadership for DOJ’s enterprise middleware platforms, enabling secure, reliable, high-performance services that support critical applications used statewide. The position helps provide DOJ staff, partners, and the public with a stable, modern technology experience by architecting and operating application delivery, integration, authentication, and data-exchange platforms. The role is hybrid, combining remote and in-office work. Remote work is supported to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business, with occasional reporting to the Salem office for scheduled team meetings. The finalist must reside in Oregon by the time of appointment. The position responds to complex middleware incidents affecting mission-critical applications and integrations, administers middleware environments across development, test, and production, and leads middleware engineering, security, compliance, and strategic planning. It supports regulated data and systems subject to requirements including IRS 1075, CJIS, SSA, and NIST frameworks. Other duties may be assigned.

Relevant education may count toward this experience: an associate’s degree or two-year vocational training counts as two years; a bachelor’s degree counts as four years; a master’s degree counts as six years. The degree or vocational training must be in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least two years of advanced knowledge of application servers, API platforms, integration frameworks, SSO/authentication systems, orchestration tools, and secure file-transfer technologies.
  • Strong middleware performance engineering, observability systems, configuration management, and high-availability design skills.
  • Deep understanding of federal and state compliance frameworks, including IRS 1075, CJIS, SSA, and NIST.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to explain complex middleware concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical reasoning, troubleshooting judgment, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Commitment to collaboration, team culture, and mentoring other technical staff.
  • Adaptability and resilience in high-pressure environments.
  • Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint-based criminal background check. A driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges; adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility.
  • A resume and cover letter are required for consideration.
  • Must reside in Oregon by the time of appointment.
